Pre-toddler. Those few months between baby and toddler. I still have 6 months.
A year ago we were eagerly awaiting the arrival of our bundle of joy. I look back upon that day/night with love and joy and excitement. Labor was nothing, recovery a breeze, breastfeeding- no problem-NOT! I would do it all over again though, for my little man. I barely remember anything negative about those first few weeks. I just remember how amazed we were bringing Elijah home. I remember how we had NO idea what to do with him, but sit and watch him, cuddle him, try to get him to sleep, lol.
That first year flies by. People aren't just trying to make you panic. It really does go by in a blink of an eye. Babies grow so fast. He went from 110% relying on me to walking, babbling, eating, playing all on his own. It's crazy.
Well enough of my sadness, let's get to celebration. The ONE year birthday is all about the parents-right? Celebrating that we got through the past year. Okay... and celebrating the amazing life that God has given us. Elijah really is something to celebrate. He's incredible. We are still so much in love with him. Even more than when we first met him 365 days ago.
We celebrated with a small family party. I didn't want anything big and planned-just something simple and fun for Elijah. It was perfect.
So first-the cake. I wanted a healthy cake, but my first try was
disgusting. So we went the 'healthier' cake option. Normal chocolate cake with
sugar-but not a ton and half wheat. It was a really good chocolate cake!
Also, after 3 tries I finally got the frosting perfect.
I think it turned out beautifully! Exactly what Elijah deserves.

Oh a sandbox!
My mom and Dakota arrived first and brought a gift that sparked a much
more excited reaction than a sandbox could have. A riding, noise making
(vroom), Lightening McQueen.
The rest of the family arrived shortly.
Bama got him a large monkey. I LOVE this face.
Corinne got him a ride-on school bus. He loves it! He is so obsessed with putting stuff in the compartment.
Sandy and Mark got him a teddy bear, fire truck pj's and a remote control Fire Truck. I think Tyler was just as excited.
We also got him a barking/walking puppy. I love the squeals Elijah makes around it.

The Cake Eating:
Elijah hadn't had any sugar up to this point. He LOVED the butter cream frosting. He attacked each 'dot' of frosting first. The top layer first, then started working on the bottom. We had to force him to get into the cake. After only about a bite or two of actual cake he was done. Way too sugared out!
After the cake, we all went in for coffee and relaxation.
