A Mom Job

Well that was quick. I left my job at the Utah Valley Convention Center this November and started a new job at Vivint. I loved being an Event Manager at a Convention Center. It was a great job! I loved working in events on the venue side. There was a lot less responsibility and stress than a corporate Event Manager. You got to meet a ton of new people and manager so many different kinds of events. I even got to manage the Synergy event! The people I worked with were so fun. Such good people! I also loved my boss Suzanne. She started out as a colleague and quickly got promoted to Events Director so we had a really good relationship. It was a great job!

However...and yes, there's a however, it just wasn't working out. I was working multiple weekends a month. Even a few Friday and Saturday nights until 2 a.m. Tyler was having to bring Elijah to me on a lot of evenings to nurse. I missed dinner and bedtime quite often (I love bedtime). I probably was working at least 50 hours a week a lot of times, but it only wasn't more because I really made sure I took my comp time. Our nanny's schedule was NEVER predictable since my schedule was NEVER predictable. It just isn't a great mom job. Maybe once Elijah's older and in school, but not now.

I worked so hard in my career as an Event Manager, so it was a hard change to make. Knowing my time is now worth less and leaving behind all the 'glory' was surprisingly hard. Tyler and I discussed the heck out of this decision. We both really felt it was great and really Vivint was an opportunity that God gave me so quickly.

So....I went to the opposite side of my career and got a job as an Administrative Assistant. It's perfect. I'm currently in my 4th week here and I really think this is going to work out. It's going to be a big change for our family financially, but I feel the logistical change is going to be worth it. I'm finally feeling like I have my evenings and weekends back...just barley though. It's crazy knowing that I can plan stuff on Saturdays without having to worry about what events we have. I work 8:30 to 4:30, Vivint gives us lunch each day, my boss and I really fit together. He's fun to talk to, but he's a little serious and likes to get stuff done quickly-which is just my style. He's also a baby wise family-so that's a fun similarity! They're very respectful of family time and they see me as a mom-which is really important to me. The work is SOOO easy!!! I don't stress about work after hours (or even during hours). All the people I work with are fun too. I have to admit they make me feel a little old, but they're fun!

I was only at the Convention Center for 7 months! Which is so crazy compared to my 9 years at Synergy. I wish I had more photos, but alas...

At least this is an awesome one!
